Steve Mitchell, a member of the firm since 1989 after starting his legal career in San Francisco, has a diverse litigation practice emphasizing business and real property disputes, public entity defense, employment law, and personal injury, both on behalf of insurers and plaintiffs. Mr. Mitchell has extensive trial experience in both Federal and State courts, in addition to resolving matters through arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution forums. He has established numerous long-term relationships with a wide variety of clients, including international high-tech, wireless communication and pharmaceutical companies, local businesses, including the area's largest real estate brokerage, energy companies, the County of Sonoma, the majority of cities in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, law enforcement agencies, insurers, and individuals.

Mr. Mitchell graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Economics, and worked as a consultant for Arthur Anderson & Co. in San Francisco, before attending law school. He graduated from UCLA School of Law and began his legal career in San Francisco at a large nationwide firm, Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. He also served as a judicial extern for Chief Justice Malcolm Lucas at the California Supreme Court.

Steve, a third generation lawyer and fourth generation Californian, was born and raised in Humboldt County. His activities outside the office include tennis, fly fishing, gardening and especially spending time trying to keep up with his four children. He and his wife Terri, a long-time member of the Board of Trustees for the Bennett Valley Union School District, are active in several local organizations, particularly in the education field.
