Our attorneys are providing free case evaluations and consultations for victims injured by Hydroxycut side effects. Hydroxycut products were recalled on May 1, 2009. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned all consumers to immediately stop using Hydroxycut products because of a risk of serious liver injury and other potentially serious side effects.
Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements marketed for weight-loss, as fat burners, as energy-enhancers, as low carb diet aids, and for water loss. The recalled products are manufactured by Iovate Health Sciences Inc. under the brand names Iovate and Muscletech.
The following specific products have been recalled:
- Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
- Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
- Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)

- Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
- Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
- Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
- Hydroxycut 24
- Hydroxycut Carb Control
- Hydroxycut Natural
While not all recalled Hydroxycut products have been implicated in adverse reactions, the FDA states, "Consumers who have these products are urged to stop using them." (Please note that Hydroxycut Hoodia and Hydroxycut Cleanse contain different ingredients than the dietary products listed above and are not subject to the recall.)
Users of Hydroxycut have reported a range of health problems, including seizures, cardiovascular disorders, kidney failure, rhabdomyolysis, liver disease, liver damage requiring liver transplant, and liver failure, with at least one confirmed death of a 20-year-old male.
Symptoms of liver injury include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), brown urine, nausea, vomiting, light colored stool, fatigue, weakness, abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite. Serious reactions to Hydroxycut have been reported in healthy consumers, those using the dosage recommended on the bottle, and even after ingestion of Hydroxycut for only a short period of time.
